AMLODIPINE Drug Interactions

Also known as: NORLIQVA

NORLIQVA (amlodipine) is a calcium channel blocker medication. It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children, and also to manage certain heart conditions like angina (chest pain) and coronary artery disease. It works by relaxing blood vessels, which helps lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.AMLODIPINE has 1 documented drug interaction in our database, including 0 contraindicated, 0 major, 1 moderate, and 0 minor interactions.

VALSARTAN(Valsartan)
Moderate

The combination of valsartan and amlodipine can lead to an additive hypotensive effect, potentially causing symptomatic hypotension, especially in patients who are volume-depleted or on other antihypertensive medications. While often used together for synergistic blood pressure reduction, close monitoring is warranted.

Mechanism

Valsartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), and amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB), both lower blood pressure through different mechanisms. Their concurrent use results in an additive pharmacodynamic effect on blood pressure.

Clinical Management

Monitor blood pressure regularly, especially during initiation or dose titration of either medication. Adjust doses as needed to achieve target blood pressure while avoiding symptomatic hypotension. Educate patients about symptoms of low blood pressure, such as dizziness or lightheadedness.
